Lisa is devoted to the understanding and treatment of trauma including:

attachment injuries, neglect, infidelity, physical or sexual abuse in childhood, war exposure, as well as, anxiety and burnout.

  • My approach centers on somatic and attachment-focused processing with avid psychoeducational teaching and resourcing. During sessions, I pull from a variety of modalities to help meet your therapy goals including Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR and Parts Work.

A session may look like engaging specific stories from the past or staying in present, everyday moments, to process current experiences — the past so often informing the present.

Our roadmap together may look like:

    • Establishing emotional stabilization and safety in the body and environment.

    • Engaging traumatic memories and overcoming fear, coming to terms with the past.

    • Integrating your story with post-traumatic meaning, toward healthy attachment, intimacy and future goals.

  • Each counseling session is tailored to the unique needs of individuals and their specific circumstances. The standard duration for sessions is 50 minutes. Typical arrangements involves scheduling weekly to biweekly sessions. Individuals facing particularly challenging situations may opt for extended session times.

Counseling can be categorized as either short-term, concentrating on specific issues, or long-term, delving into your story and patterns of relating to yourself and the world based on your past experiences. Occasionally, clients may be encouraged to undertake specific actions beyond the counseling room, such as reading, tracking behaviors/emotions or participating in mindfulness activities.

Active participation, both during and outside of sessions, is crucial for therapy to achieve maximum effectiveness.

  • It’s normal to feel some nerves before experiencing something new, especially a new modality of therapy that you may not have experienced before.

    Tips for success:

    • Prioritize a good night's sleep before and the night after your session, especially with EMDR. Rest is crucial for your nervous system to be ready for processing.

    • I am equipped to provide grounding tools before and after processing occurs. If you have a comfort item you would like to bring, you are most welcome to bring that item along.

•. Is there a supportive person you can share your nervousness with prior to your session, someone to encourage you on the path toward regulation and healing?

Remember this is a collaborative relationship, where trust between you and me is my highest priority.

  • Individual Therapy:

  • EMDR therapy is an innovative approach to healing that aims to assist individuals in processing and overcoming painful memories and thoughts. By guiding clients through targeted eye movements. sounds or touch, therapists help individuals reprocess traumatic experiences and develop healthier coping mechanisms. This therapy combines elements of exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to address the emotional distress associated with PTSD.

During EMDR sessions, therapists encourage clients to focus on specific memories or emotions while engaging in bilateral stimulation to help the brain effectively digest and integrate these experiences. The goal is to alleviate trauma responses and enhance the individual's ability to manage their symptoms. EMDR therapy is typically conducted over multiple sessions, with noticeable improvements often observed after just a few sessions. However, the duration and effectiveness of therapy may vary depending on the individual's unique needs and circumstances.
